This time of lock down has been giving us time to complete something we have said we would do for year. This website and this BLOG! 🙂 It has also given us time to remember and reminisce on past travels.
Cornwall 2018
We should be now posting wonderful updates of our trip to Jordan but because of the lock down we are stuck like everyone else, at home wondering what could have been. Jordan was definitely one on our bucket list (John wants to recreate Indiana Jones) and we will be reorganized to head out there ASAP. So instead we thought we would share regular updates and images of our past travels to keep ourselves excited for our next big adventure whenever that might be (fingers crossed for 6 weeks in Malaysia this summer)!

The weather in October half term 2018 was fantastic so we spent most of our time in Cornwall outside hiking. The next image shot was taken in Kynance Cove on the Lizard Peninsula where we stopped for a picnic lunch and play on the beach as part of our 10km hike along the coastal path. The boys could have spent all day making dams and redirecting the small streams on the beach despite the cool temps and cold hands, but alas the tide came back in and closed off the beach as it does twice a day. It’s well worth a visit and the hike as the views are spectacular!

As a family we fully believe that you only really get the experience the culture and the sense of a place when you try the local food. This next photo is another shot taken in St Ives, Cornwall were we found the traditional Cornish pasty shops along the harbour after a long day hiking and spending time on the cool beach paddling in the cold october waters. That evening we took our piping hot pasties sat on the harbour wall, warming our cold tired body’s with the warmth from the pasty’s.

As long as you have a warm fire and a tent you can camp anywhere and anytime! Oct camping in Cornwall UK the days can warmed by the sun but the evenings get cold quick and back in 2018 we made sure every night the wood fire was burning to keep us warm. Nothing warms you more however when you add to the mix fire cooked s’mores washed down with warm Hot Chocolate!
A massive advantage of camping in Oct is no one else does it 😀so when we stayed at Higher Pentreath Campsite on Praa sands beach the boys had the fields to themselves to run riot, scream, have adventures, kick footballs and explore! It really is a world away from the cramped busy campsites that is often the reality of summer camping in the UK.

A big family passion on Johns side is fishing and John is determined to continue this with the boys with it taking place in some form almost every holiday!Unfortunately in October in Porthleven, Cornwall the fish have left so not many were biting (none in fact)!
We also love to explore our surroundings as a family and this lockdown has been very hard as doing nothing is not something we do well as a family. We have to always be busy and on the go. In the final image below you can see the boys walking towards St Michael’s Mount. It is a tidal island in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall. The island is only accessible on foot when the tide is out otherwise you have to take a boat across! With the sky being clear the view was spectacular across the bay and out to sea. The boys had a great time exploring the little island and learning about its history.
