What trips have you guys got in mind for 2021?
So 2020 is on its way out! It wasn’t what was planned but that’s OK we still got in some travel in France and Scotland over the summer as well as Skiing at the beginning of the year (John was also “lucky” to get one of the last school trips of the year out to Iceland in February.
We believe that after a slow start 2021 is going to be a blast! We have already booked 2 trips and hoping to get some more sorted when things become more clear!
Our summer holiday is going to be a 5-week camping road trip around Iceland. This will be Johns 5th time, Martina’s second and the boys first. This time we will get away from the golden circle in the south (the tourist hot spot of Iceland) and head north. John in his role as head of Geography has taken 3 trips out to Iceland (the past 2 trips having 100 students and staff in tail) and having chatted to the fantastic guides on the trip he has been assured that the sights are more spectacular and bigger than those on the circle. So we have booked ourselves a 4×4 will be packing a tent and heading the to the edge of the arctic circle to explore.
We have also then booked a week in Malta for the October half term which, to be honest, was decided as we wanted a warm October location, not too far with cheap flights. We were debating between Malta and Madeira (Portugal) and decided on a coin toss to head to Malta this year and look at Madeira next year.
We have had a few people ask us why we have taken a risk on this as things are still very sketchy with the pandemic but in fact, these are calculated risks with a low risk financially. We have managed to book flights to Iceland through Easyjet for less than £200 return and we also don’t have to pay for the car hire and camping until we arrive in Iceland. We did think about looking at Asia but then you would have to pay £2000+ upfront and we are still struggling to get our refund from Air China from our flight cancelled flights in December. So in many ways for a family addicted to travel this is no brainier in our eyes.
Fingers crossed that things will start to improve fast enough for Easter and maybe we can get a sneaky trip organised last minute!
