Day 1: Kathmandu – The Trek Begins
Our Everest Base Camp adventure began with a grueling Day 1. It truly felt like two days seamlessly combined into one, with no actual night – and absolutely no sleep! We effectively skipped nighttime as the time zones changed, propelling us forward in time.
We departed London at 1 PM with Air India. Despite some mixed reviews we’d read online, our flights to Kathmandu were smooth and efficient, earning a solid four-star rating from us. We would 100% fly with them again (and we likely will, as we plan to return many times over the next few years).

We experienced a slight delay in Delhi, which unexpectedly allowed us a precious extra hour of rest before landing in Kathmandu just after 10 AM. Arriving tired but excited, we headed straight to the Kathmandu Guest House. It’s a beautiful setting, nestled in the middle of a chaotic city and the bustling tourist area of Thamel. Our priority upon arrival was to get some much-needed sleep before the afternoon’s essential gear check and a visit to the Nimsdai store.

See day to see who we met on day two of our journey.
