Day 13 – Exploring Concordia: Snowball Fights, snowmen and Stunning Views of K2

Rest Day at Concordia

We woke to brilliant sunshine, with last night’s heavy snowfall covering the ground in a fresh inch of snow, perfect for the boys to play in! As the clouds lifted, we were greeted with an absolutely jaw-dropping view of K2, rising majestically from the valley floor, dwarfing all other peaks around it.

The boys dove straight into the snow, building snowmen in the shadow of K2—a surreal experience that truly captures the magic of this place. It’s hard to believe we’re actually here, surrounded by some of the world’s most iconic mountains.

Today, we tried to rest as best we could, but it’s been challenging. The boys are holding up great, full of energy, but both Mum and Dad are struggling with a bug or stomach issue. Our appetite is down, and we feel drained. We both attempted naps, but the constant changes in weather—shifting from warm sunshine to swirling blizzards—kept us on our toes.

The boys enjoyed hours of snowball fights and snowman-building, soaking up this unforgettable experience in the shadow of K2. The weather swung wildly throughout the day. One moment, we were basking in T-shirts under the sun, and the next, the temperature plummeted to -5°C with sudden snow squalls and fierce winds.

We spent the day taking photos, resting, and sipping on endless cups of tea. We also did a bit of repacking, organizing only the essentials for tomorrow’s journey to the K2 and Broad Peak base camps. It’s an exciting next step, with an overnight stay at K2 Base Camp before returning here.
Another early night for us as we prepare for a big day ahead!
